How Can You Prepare for Cataract Removal?
You’ve suffered long enough from having cataracts that you finally decided to get cataract removal in Los Angeles. You were already examined by your doctor and advised to get surgery to remove the cataracts and enjoy clear vision again.
But going under any surgical procedure is scary. In fact, a lot of people don’t get cataract surgery just because they don’t want to undergo the procedure. But if having cataract removal means getting your vision back, then it’s definitely worth trying. Here are some ways that you can prepare for cataract removal:
Listen to what your doctor has to say.
Sometimes, the fear just arises due to the lack of knowledge about the procedure. Gladly, your doctor will tell you everything that will happen before, during and after the surgery, so make sure to take notes. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, so you can put your mind at ease and ready for the procedure.
Stop wearing contact lenses.
Your doctor will give you a list of instructions to prepare you for cataract removal. One of these is to stop wearing your contact lenses at least three days before the procedure. This will give your eyes enough time to rest from the lenses and help your cornea get back to its regular shape.
You may also be asked by your doctor to stop using products such as skincare, lotions, makeup and even perfume, especially on the day of your cataract removal. If you’re not sure what to avoid before the surgery, don’t be afraid to ask your doctor about it.
Plan your transportation and home care.
While cataract removal is a fairly minor surgical procedure, you can expect to feel discomfort, pain and even some grogginess because of the medication given to you. So before you get into surgery, make sure that you already arrange for transportation since you won’t be able to drive for a few days after the surgery.
Planning your home care is also crucial to your recovery. Make sure that you have someone to take care of you and the household while you focus on healing and rest. Remember that you’re not allowed to do any lifting, bending or any strenuous activity for at least a week after your surgery. So it’s best to plan your home care ahead of time to avoid stress and really enjoy your recovery.
